Pure Tashodi Argan Hair Oil Review

IMG_4314

I only have to wash my hair every three to four days, and although the majority of my hair stays happy, the ends get very dry by day 2 and need a little extra love.  Plus, the colder weather means more fly-aways so I usually carry something with me to help manage them.

I have tried a few other leave in conditioner sprays and I’m feeling a little bit like Goldilocks – this one’s too much, that one’s not enough, but where is the product that’s ‘just right’? Continue reading Pure Tashodi Argan Hair Oil Review

Live Clean Age Resist Miracle Nutrition Oil Review

IMG_4312

I am always looking for ways to protect my hair as I want to grow it out to be nice and long.  This oil by Live Clean Professional is a pre-shower treatment which you leave on your hair for about five minutes prior to showering.  Think of it as a quick deep conditioning treatment that you can do anytime you wash your hair.   Continue reading Live Clean Age Resist Miracle Nutrition Oil Review

Intelligent Nutrients Hair Shine Serum Review

20140621-042551-15951932.jpg Hemp seed oil used to be my thing, and worked well with my hair. It penetrated right to the core of each strand of hair without adding too much weight. The only thing is it was messy to apply and could really only be applied to damp/wet hair. Always on the lookout for versatile products, I thought I’d try Intelligent Nutrient’s Hair Shine Serum. Chock full of USDA organic ingredients and hair loving oils, you’d think this product was a shoe in to become a fave! Sadly, this was not the case for me. My Hair Care Routine

It has been a bit of a journey, but I think I’ve finally found a good balance of hair care products that work well for my hair and have honestly given me the best hair I’ve had in my adult life.  I never thought I’d say this, but my hair feels softer, healthier and looks more smooth and has better shine than it ever did with conventional products or even the expensive salon-grade products.  Even though I have dyed my hair repeatedly for years, and have gone from very light blonde to very dark brown and back again several times, my hair now air-dries without any frizz.  I definitely couldn’t boast about that with my salon brands.

The transition from salon to natural products wasn’t pretty.  I nearly quit to go back to salon products so many times I can’t even count.  But now that I’m on the flip side (nearly two months later) I can honestly say I’d never go back.  I no longer expect my shampoo to lather like crazy, and understand that my hair can be just as clean without the stripping sulfate ingredients.  Like I’ve said, my hair has never been healthier.  Why would I go back?

Yarok Feed Your Ends Conditioner Review

Although I hope to someday be at the point where all I’ll need is a shampoo bar and apple cider vinegar rinse to be happy with my hair, for now I still feel like it needs a conditioner or some variety.  I’ve been using the John Master’s Organics Citrus and Neroli Detangler (review) for the last little while, but I was hoping to find something that wouldn’t be quite as expensive.  It works wonders, don’t get me wrong, but at $22 CAD for an 8oz bottle, the price is a little steep.  Especially when you have to spend more than $60 to get free shipping! But I digress…

While perusing my favourite natural beauty products website, EcoDivaBeauty, I came across a product by Yarok called Feed Your Ends.  It’s a leave-in conditioner and heat protectant that is 100% natural and certified vegan.  Can’t get much better than that!

One Love Organics Samples Review

I received samples of three products from One Love Organics a while back and I’ve finally given them enough of a trial that I feel I can offer a decent review on them.  Even though the sample sizes looked itty bitty at the time, a little went a long way and I was surprised how long they lasted.

The three products I tried were “Easy Does It”, “Morning Glory”, and “Skin Saviour”.

A Shampoo Bar Epiphany

I have a new and updated version of this post with even more discoveries, how-to’s, troubleshooting ideas and the most common questions that I have been asked.  Check it out here!

The journey into having my hair accept a shampoo bar has been a bit of a rocky one.  My first obstacle was finding a sulphate free shampoo bar in my city, and then searching else-where for one that wasn’t quite as stripping as the only one I had found.  Then I started searching for the right balance of ingredients for my hair: moisturizing without weighing it down.

Hair Oil Treatments

The benefits of using a leave-in oil treatment on your hair are well known.  Although it is impossible to actually repair the damage to your hair completely, using an oil treatment will help protect the hair shaft and close down the shaft lessening the appearance of frizz and split ends.  Hair oil treatments are definitely a trend right now with some drug store brands, like Pantene or Garnier, picking up on the mass demand.  But not all hair oil treatments are created equal.  Be careful with drug store brands as they often contain alcohol or other ethanol ingredients which will actually dry out your hair in the long run.  What really surprised me was when I started looking into salon brands, such as MoroccanOil, and I saw just how many harmful ingredients were included in their products.  I guess I expected salon brands to be a bit more pure than that.  I was equally surprised when I looked at a few ‘natural’ products to find out just how many of them had unwanted/damaging ingredients.
