If you think the idea of making your own applesauce is daunting I promise it is exactly the opposite. And by making your own you know exactly what’s in it and can reduce the sugar and preservative content. Win-win!
Makes about 6 dessert sized servings
8 apples (any kind except granny smith. The acid content doesn’t mix well with the cranberries)
1 1/2 cups fresh cranberries
1 3/4 cups water or 100% cranberry juice with no sugar added
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1. Peel and chop apples into slices. You can absolutely leave the peels on and get more nutrients from this apple sauce, but if you’re going for that silky smooth texture, just snack on the peels while the appleauces is cooking!
2. Put all ingredients in a pot and simmer on low for about 30 minutes or until apples are soft
3. Allow sauce to cool and then using a hand blender or stand blender puree mixture until well blended.
